Anlässlich des 30. Geburtstags vom »König der Löwen« und seiner Welt, welche die Künstler-Community so beeinflusst und nachhaltig geprägt hat wie kaum eine andere, wollte ich selbst ein wenig Fanart dazugeben. Da ich selbst Platz auf dem Bild haben wollte, musste als weiblicher Gegenpart natürlich auch Fuli dabeisein und Nala und Simba sowieso. Zwischen dem Herbsttreiben muss auch Zeit für die Kunst bleiben. Zum Zwecke der Künstlerei nahm ich Pinsel und Farben und etwas Wasser, und dann malte ich. Das Motiv war schnell gefunden: Anstatt stets nur Prominenz bekannter Animationsfilme abzubilden, sollten dieses Mal »Jua vom Dornenhain, Tochter der Mzaa« und »Pumuzi vom roten Gabelbaum, Sohn der Koo« im bildlichen Mittelpunkt stehen, ebenjene zwei Fleckentiere, die den meisten Platz im Roman »@Gephleckt« einnehmen.Da die beiden Ferals sind, sollten sie auch authentisch in der Savanne hocken, umgeben von nichts als Gras und den drei Steinen auf Pumuzis Anhöhe, was auch immer eine Anhöhe in der Ebene der Savanne bedeuten mag. Und da sind sie nun.🇬🇧There has to be time for some art between the colourful autumn madness. For the sake of art, I took a brushes and paints and some water, and then I painted. The subject of the drawing was found quickly: instead of depicting celebrities from well-known animated movies, this time the focus should be on »Jua of the Thorn Grove, Daughter of Mzaa« and »Pumuzi of the Red Forked Tree, Son of the Koo«, the very two spotted animals that take up most of the space in the novel »@Gephleckt«.Since the two are ferals, they should be sitting authentically in the savannah, surrounded by nothing but grass and the three stones on Pumuzi’s hill, whatever a hill in the great plains means. Nach süßen Mäuschen und DTIYS-Challenges gibt es heute mal ein Bild ohne eine Vorlage. Kennt ihr das, wenn ihr an einem Feuer sitzt und in die Flammen starrt, in Gedanken ganz weit weg, an anderen Orten oder gar in der Vergangenheit? Genau solch ein Bild wollte ich heute malen.Damit daraus etwas wurde, ließ ich mir noch weiße Acrylfarbe und einen neuen Bleistift und Maskierfarbe und einen sauteuren Pinsel kaufen, denn nur so könne es etwas mit dem Bild werden, sagte ich. Und nachdem ich alles hatte, das nötig, setzte ich mich ans Werklein. Welch ein Kampf. Welchen Kampf ich meine? Nun, letztes Wochenende ging ich mal wieder daran, die Aquarellfarben auszupacken und ein paar der Skizzen zu kolorieren, die seit Tagen auf ihren Anstrich warteten. Doch dieses Mal sollten sie nicht bloß koloriert werden, nein, sie sollten auch einen starken Hell-Dunkel-Kontrast haben. Eine Zeichenübung eben.Aber was als Übung ausgedacht, wandelte sich schnell zur Frustration, da das Spiel mit Licht und Schatten gar kein Spiel, stattdessen bitterer Ernst war. So wanderte die erste Skizze nach zehn Minuten in den Müll. Der Zweiten blieb das Schicksal erspart, aber wirklich pläsierlich wurde auch dieses Werklein nicht.Sei’s drum – hier ist meine Interpretation von: Sekhmet.🇬🇧What a struggle. Last weekend I got out the watercolors with the intention to colorize some of the sketches that had been waiting for days to be finished. But this time they weren’t just to be colored, no, they should have a strong light-dark contrast as well. Some sort of an art exercise.But the play with light and shadow wasn’t a fun game at all, but rather a deadly serious matter, as the first sketch went in the trash after ten minutes. Some of you may be amazed at the scene - a drawing with mice? Some of you may be wondering why Juba should draw mice, he who only portraits cheetahs and rarely lions or tigers? Why mice?Well, it all started with the account of @ellie_hooi_illustration - Danielle regularly posts enchanting watercolor drawings, and mice are often the subject of her works, those mice that cannot be surpassed in terms of cuteness, those mice that seem easy to draw. I also wanted to try such mice, a kind of homage to them.And I had to realize the simplicity of the lines was not easy to reproduce. As always, it’s difficult to make something look easy. And so my mice look a little like capybaras or particularly fat mice and the coloring, although seemingly simple, is not half as felicitous as of Danielle’s mice. So geschah es auch gestern, als ich dem Gedanken erlag, ich müsse eine sizilianische Rosengärtnerin bei ihrer Arbeit zeichnen und kolorieren. The incredible @momiji95 recently started a #dtiys challenge, and because the subject strolled along somewhere in my comfort zone, while it seemed somewhat doable, I thought: let's give it a try.As you can imagine it wasn't a tiger, but I tried to create a similar perspective for the cheetah with an equal level of fluffyness. Some things worked out well, some things didn't - when I colored the cheetah's pupils, I noticed how big, yeah, too big they were. In the sketch it looked kind of cute, but finally coloured it seemed like having too much of belladonna. In fact, the drawing came out quite promising meanwhile, but the sharp outlines don't forgive any wrong stroke - at that point I should have deviated from the given motif and drawn less dark, perhaps fewer lines. Maybe next time.However, at my current skill level this is, what I can do with the watercolors. Weil das Wetter für sonnige Ausflüge zur Zeit einigermaßen unbrauchbar ist, vertreibt sich unser Mensch die übrige Zeit mit Stift und Papier und Farben und manchmal auch mit einem Radiergummi. Und heute – die Sonne schien für ein paar Minuten – war es an mir, einige der entstandenen Bilder festzuhalten, damit sie im Freien und bei Tageslicht fotografiert werden konnten, ohne dabei vom Winde verweht zu werden. Das Draußenfotografieren, so sagte man mir, begünstigte die naturgetreue Darstellung der Farben. Nun denn: Da sind nun einige der Bilder.🇬🇧Since the weather is currently somewhat unsuitable for sunny excursions, our human passes the rest of their time with pen and paper and colors and sometimes even with an eraser. And today - the sun shone for a few minutes - it was my turn to hold down some of the resulting drawings so that they could be photographed outdoors and in daylight without being blown away by the wind. Auf unserem Streifzug entdeckten wir einen dieser flachen Schwimmkörper, die hier in der Gegend häufig auf dem Wasser liegen und selbst durch die kleinsten Fjorde gestochert werden, ganz in Schwarz und sonderbar verziert mit allerlei Gestalten.Was es sein soll, fragt ihr? Keine Ahnung. Vielleicht ist es eine verspreewäldlichte Darstellung von Noahs Arche. Es könnte auch die wörtliche Darstellung eines Drachenbootes sein. Vielleicht ist es auch Odysseus Schiff, mit dem er auf Tour ging. Oder ist es die Barke der Toten auf den Weg ins Gre'thor? Ich weiß es nicht.Habt ihr denn eine Idee?🇬🇧On our foray we discovered one of those flat floats, which often lie on the water around here and are poked even through the smallest fjords, all in black and strangely decorated with all sorts of figures.You might ask what it is - no idea. Perhaps it is a spreewaldian depiction of Noah's Ark. It could also be the literal representation of a dragon boat. Maybe it's Odysseus' ship he went on tour with. Or is it the barge of the dead bound for Gre'thor?
