Here away go with the facts #6 to #10:6⃣ Did you know that male cheetahs live territorially, whereas females roam larger areas and thereby cross the territories of the males?7⃣ Most cheetahs in the wild are found south of the Sahara. But did you know that cheetahs were found even in desert regions and forest regions. In fact, once they were spread nearly everywhere in Africa. Although they seem so fragile, cheetahs are very robust and adaptable, despite their specialized hunting technique.8⃣ Did you know that until recently no one knew why cheetahs had offspring in captivity so rarely? Yes, it was noticed late that females kept in groups socialized to the point that they could no longer ovulate. It is believed that this behavior is supposed to prevent inbreeding. In fact, it prevented breeding in zoos for a long time.9⃣ Did you know that cheetahs have a huge variaty of sounds they call out? There are yelps and chirrups and chirps and yips and purrs and growls and snorts and meows.🔟 It is no secret that there are currently only 7,000 - 9,000 cheetahs left in the wild. At #InternationalCheetahDay there has to be a book recommendation too.I was just talking about an informative book "Cheetahs: Biology and Conservation" while presenting you some nice facts about the #cheetah. And I would like to say it once again: With this book you get - for an admittedly steep price - the most comprehensive piece of bound paper in which the author describes just about every bit of information from every O'Brian, every Laurie Marker, all of the conservation Institutes.You get information on almost every national park, its population sizes, the different proportions of the animals in each recorded region, their regional territorial and social behavior, the cub mortality depending on the area, every recorded prey, the hunting frequency in dependency on the grounds, the size of prey, other predators, the number of humans living there, regional litter sizes, evolution, hunting techniques, the duration of eating after a hunt, physique, organ sizes, blood groups, the captivation in zoos, the problems and opportunities there, required feed compositions, minimum enclosure sizes, insights into the controlled breeding, etc. I could go on with this litany for one more page and it would, without exaggeration, remain incomplete.But it doesn't hurt to have a look at @rememberingwildlife 's book series "Remembering Wildlife", especially the "Remebering Cheetahs" edition - the revenues from the illustrated books of selected photographs benefit animal welfare projects. Maybe this is a suitable Christmas present, don't you think?Both books are an absolute recommenda......what the hell- why am I there although I'm still here? And why am I already holding the book in the camera even though I wanted to hold it in the camera now? What- what is happening here? Niara? Mneka? Swede? Anyone? Due to the #InternationalCheetahDay let's have some #cheetah facts. Many of you know #cheetahs from documentaries, know about light speed and their habitats and behaviour and vast beauty. So I tried to pick out a few facts that you might not already know. These and way more about cheetahs you can find in this incredible book "Cheetahs: Biology and Conservation". My human has a loooot of books, but this is probably the most informative of them all.These facts are brought to you by some of the plushies, living here. So here away go with the facts #1 to #5:1⃣ Did you know that cheetahs can move their claws, though it's said cheetahs can't and their claws would always stick out? Actually, they can retract their claws, but the sheaths have receded so far that they are never appearing completely hidden.However, the often quoted term "retractable claws" isn't correct at all. The claws are automatically held back by an elastic band, so the claws have to be stretched out. More precisely, they should be called "extendable claws".2⃣ Did you know that the black spots in the cheetah's fur coat appear slightly raised respectively the dark fur seems little longer due to an optical effect?3⃣ Did you know that despite their comparatively small skull, cheetahs have a similar brain volume to other cats? So the cheetah's head is another example of pure efficiency.4⃣ Did you know that 95% of all female cheetahs could be found in the wild are either pregnant or raise cubs at the time of their sighting? Only a few are independent, probably waiting for a male to come.5⃣ Everyone knows that cheetahs are the fastest land creatures. But did you know that cheetahs lose so much energy on a hunt that four or five failed attempts might cause them starve?
